Holidays to Morocco

A mysterious land awash with colours and spices, carpets and covered souks, Morocco is the crowning jewel of North Africa.

An intoxicating blend of cultures, Morocco conjures images of colourful souks filled with heady aromas, traditional Berber houses clinging to mountain slopes, desert wilderness spiked with swaying palms and sweeping saffron-coloured sand dunes of the Sahara. Morocco’s history tells a tale of Roman conquests, Islamic invasion and Berber dynasties which have each left their mark on the country.

Framed by the Atlas Mountains, Marrakech is the epitome of Morocco with its ancient medina and vibrant Jemaâ el Fna Square. Brimming with heritage and culture, sites of interest in Marrakech include the Bahia Palace, Ben Youssef Madrasa and the Majorelle Gardens. To the east lies the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains and further south you will find Ouarzazate, gateway to the mighty Saharan desert, which is home to red earth coloured kasbahs and date palms.

To the north are the twin imperial cities of Meknes and Fes, the latter home to one of the finest original medieval medinas in the world, and nearby you will find the Roman city of Volubilis, Morocco’s best-preserved archaeological site. Chefchaouen – an atmospheric blue-washed town set high in the Rif Mountains is highly recommended on a tour of Morocco. Back down on the Atlantic coast lies pretty Essaouira which, with its low white-washed buildings, historic harbour and windswept beach, retains a relaxed and carefree air. We'd just like to thank you for organising such a fantastic holiday

GT & ST - Morocco - November 2023

We'd just like to thank Pettitts Travel very much for organising such a fantastic holiday in Morocco. It was just what we needed and it was the perfect place to celebrate my birthday.

We found Morocco to be extremely friendly and the scenery is stunning. The countryside is just vast and unspoilt...and choice of hotels and most guides were all very good.

Thank you for organising such an amazing trip to Morocco

CM & DR - Morocco - October 2022

I just wanted to write and thank you for organising such an amazing trip to Morocco. Both hotels were lovely, so beautiful and the staff were so helpful and made our stay relaxing. The Go Berber trip was such a humbling experience, the family were so kind and generous although they had very little. As ever you arranged a trip that was wonderful, with all of the transfers etc running so smoothly.

Places to visit in Morocco

An exotic land of spice bazaars, souks and white-washed coastal towns, snow-capped mountains, mud-brick Berber forts and Saharan sand dunes, it seems remarkable that Morocco is located so close to Europe. Marrakech is a natural gateway to the kingdom. Full of energy, this is a city of street performers, covered markets and traditional riads. Its proximity to home also makes it perfect for a long weekend away.

To the north of Marrakech are the Imperial cities of Meknes and Fes, the former close to the Roman remains of Volubilis and the latter famous for its tanneries. From here it is possible to travel further to visit Chefchaouen and Tangiers. South of Marrakech traverse the High Atlas Mountains then descend towards the Sahara passing remote oases and enigmatic Kasbahs including Ait Ben Haddou. Returning to the coast, photogenic Essaouira is a lovely place to relax at the end of a journey.

Yes! Haggling is widespread throughout Morocco and is commonplace in souks. Most shopkeepers quote a higher price and expect the buyer to haggle which is all part of the experience.
