The combination of sand, sea and sun is enjoyed the world over – there are few better ways to truly relax – and warm sun, good food and welcoming turquoise waters are, in many ways, the quintessential holiday. The beauty of a beach holiday is its diversity – there is an option that can be tailored for everyone since each destination has its own unique character and atmosphere. Beaches vary from those that are bustling to those that are secluded with fewer surrounding amenities, accommodation ranges from grand resorts to chic boutique retreats and everything in between, there are hotels that cater for adults or those that focus on families and the options on where to go are limitless from short hops to Europe to exotic long-haul destinations.

Greece and Cyprus

Dotted with beautiful beaches and idyllic islands, Greece makes for the perfect summer getaway. Take a traditional beach holiday in Kos or Kefalonia, explore the two diverse sides of Crete on a twin-centre break or enjoy a romantic retreat on one of the little-visited island paradises such as Skopelos. Turkey

From bustling spice markets and classical ancient ruins to coastal pine-clad hills and sleepy hidden bays, Turkey will no doubt awaken your senses. The Turkish Riviera located in the southwest is home to over 400 miles of white-sand beaches and secret coves. Boasting some of Turkey’s most upmarket resorts such as Belek and Lara Beach, the Turquoise Coast is dotted with boutique hotels and stylish bars - perfect for a couple’s retreat. To the east, you’ll find the family-friendly resorts of Fethiye and Dalaman, famed for its turquoise and calm waters. Even further east lies the Bodrum Peninsula and the lively towns of Gumbet, Yalikavak and stylish Bodrum. Alternatively, you could combine a relaxing beach holiday with a cultural city break in Istanbul, or embark on a traditional sailing holidays on a gulet.

Italy, Sardinia and Sicily

With fabulous food, beautiful landscapes, spectacular coastal towns and friendly cities, Italy and the islands of Sardinia and Sicily offer reliable weather, lovely beaches and the opportunity to combine some well-deserved relaxation with traditional Italian culture. Sorrento, Ravello, Capri and the famed Amalfi Coast is a classic coastal destination whilst Puglia, on the opposite side of the peninsula, with its turquoise coves, white-washed towns and ancient villages is a hidden gem rich in southern Italian charm. The Italian islands of Sardinia and Sicily are popular spring, summer and autumn destinations, the former renowned for its pristine beaches and the latter its mountainous interior, ancient sites and stunning coastal towns. In the north, the picturesque villages of the Cinque Terre, which cling to the cliffs, are perfect for a two-centre holiday and combine well with Rome and Florence.

Malta

The best things often come in small packages and Malta is certainly no exception. From its strong culture and centuries-old sights to its chic harbour resorts and glorious beaches, this tiny Mediterranean island really packs a punch. Malta’s capital Valletta is a UNESCO listed city that boasts many historical sites featuring Medieval and Baroque architecture, two harbours and many charming bars and restaurants. Other than culture and history, Malta’s biggest draw is its beautiful coastline. Mellieha Bay is home to the island’s biggest sandy beach, whereas the popular resorts of Bugibba and Qawra have flat rocks for relaxing in the sun. Stylish Sliema in the northeast offers a handful of boutique resorts whereas bustling St Julian’s is known for its waterfront restaurants and lively nightlife.

Croatia and Montenegro

Picture-perfect beaches, secluded islands, breathtaking national parks and medieval walled cities make up the beautiful country of Croatia. Croatia’s popularity has considerably grown over the iconic islands of Brac, Hvar and Vis or spend a week sailing through hundreds of untouched bays and coves.
